Here is a list of the candidates for the 2009 Executive Committee positions as well as the local Societies. The following candidates and bios are provided to allow section members an opportunity to select the persons they feel are best suited to care for the responsibilities of the associated positions. Paper ballots are included in a newsletter being mailed to all IEEE members. You may also download a PDF ballot to print out and mail at this link.
- Jim Barbee - Jim entered the electric utility industry in June of 2004 with a Material Standards position at NPPD. His current position as a Metering Engineer has him supporting metering personnel and working on projects such as AMR implementation and handheld reading system upgrades. Jim holds a BS degree in physics from Doane College and received his BSEE from Columbia University in 2003. He has been a member of the IEEE for five years. (Running for Member At Large)
- John Benefiel, P.E. - MSECE from the University of Missouri, BSEE from Kansas State University, MBA from Rockhurst University; registered Professional Engineer; currently Manager-Engineering Services for A&E National. Board of Directors member of the Nebraska Center For Excellence in Electronics, NCEE Labs. Past secretary and past treasurer of IEEE Kansas City section. - Pierce Carpenter, P.E. - BSEE from UNL, currently Field Supervisor in Communications at Omaha Public Power District.; Past President of Nebraska Chapter NSPE; Current Chair of Nebraska Section Communications Society. (Running for Communication Society Vice Chairman)
- Song Ci, [S'98, M'02, SM'06] is an assistant professor at the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering in the College of Engineering of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2002 in Electrical Engineering. He also worked with China Telecom as a telecommunication engineer from 1992 to 1995 and with Wireless Connectivity Division of 3COM Cooperation, Santa Clara, CA, as a R&D co-op in 2001. From 2002 to 2005, he was an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Michigan-Flint. From 2005 to 2006, he was an assistant professor of computer science at UMass Boston. He has been actively engaging in many professional activities. He currently serves as Guest Editor for IEEE Transactions on Multimedia and IEEE Network Magazine, Associate Editor for five Editorial Board of International Journal. He serves as the TPC co-chair of IEEE ICCCN 2009, the TPC vice chair of IEEE ICCCN 2007, the session chair of IEEE MILCOM 2007-2008 on cross-layer protocols, the TPC co-chair of IEEE WLN 2007, the TPC co-chair of Wireless Applications track at IEEE VTC 2007 Fall. He serves as TPC members for numerous conferences, including IEEE INFOCOM 2009, IEEE GlobeCom (2004-2009), and IEEE ICC (2005-2009). - Dan DeLuna, P.E. - BS Electronics Engineering from UNL. Current owner of DKN Computer Solutions, a computer sales and database consulting company. Dan is a past Chair of IEEE Nebraska Section and current Computer Society Chair. (Running for Computer Society Chairman)
- Patrick Duckworth, P.E. - BSEE from UNL, 1982; Registered Professional Engineer in Nebraska since 1995. Currently Senior Technical Services Engineer in the System Planning and Work Management Division at Omaha Public Power District. 25 years experience in power quality and distribution systems reliability. - Louis Lester, P.E. - BSEE from Iowa State University, 1985; Registered Professional Engineer in Nebraska since 1993. Currently Senior Engineer - Maintenance Optimization in the System Planning and Work Management Division at Omaha Public Power District. Experience at OPPD for last 23 years has been in design and project management in Nuclear then in maintenance for transmission and distribution. (Running for Member At Large)
- Ron Ostendorf, P.E. - BSEE from KU (May of 1987), Registered Professional Engineer in eleven states, LEED AP, currently Senior Associate at Maniktala Engineering Group (ME Group), Electrical department head, Past Secretary of Denver IEEE PES/IAS section, Past Vice-Chair of University of Kansas Student Section. Member of IAE1 and BICSI. 2008 NE Section PACE chair, and Roundtable representative, Senior Member in 2008. Published article on Grounding in Pure Power Magazine. (Running for Member At Large)
- John B. Richards, P.E. - Senior Member IEEE, BSEE-UNL; currently an engineer in the renewable energy development department, NPPD; registered professional engineer in Nebraska and Colorado; IEEE Centennial Medal recipient; past chairman/vice-chairman/secretary of the IEEE Denver Section; past chairman, Denver Section student fund committee; over 30 years utility experience in substation engineering, system protection engineering, and renewable energy. - Jason Smith, P.E. - BSEE and MSEE degrees from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1998 and 2001 respectively. Currently with Lincoln Electric System (LES) as a System Planning Engineer. During his tenure at UNL, he has held several offices in both IEEE and HKN, the most significant of which was President of the UNL Student Chapter. Mr. Smith is a member of IEEE since 1994. - Paul F. Vovk, P.E. - BSEE from UNL, MSCS from UNO; Registered Professional Engineer in Nebraska, 20 years experience at OPPD in power plant design engineering, and currently Lead Electrical Engineer in the Production Operations Division at Omaha Public Power District. Current Treasurer and past Secretary for the NeSPE. IEEE member for 23 years. (Running for Power Society Vice Chairman)
- Tadeusz Antoni Wysocki - received the M.Sc.Eng. degree with the highest distinction in telecommunications from the Academy of Technology and Agriculture, Bydgoszcz, Poland, in 1981. In 1984, he received his Ph.D. degree, and in 1990, was awarded a D.Sc. degree (habilitation) in telecommunications from the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1992, Dr. Wysocki moved to Perth, Western Australia to work at Edith Cowan University. He spent the whole 1993 at the University of Hagen, Germany, within the framework of Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship. In December 1998, he moved to the University of Wollongong, NSW, as an Associate Professor, within the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. Since the fall of 2007, he has been with the University of Nebraska – Lincoln as Professor of Computer and Electronics Engineering at the Peter Kiewit Institute in Omaha, NE. The main areas of Dr. Wysocki's research interests include: space-time signal processing, diversity combining, indoor propagation of microwaves, as well as routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks. He has been a Senior Member of IEEE since 1998. In 1996, he established the West Australian Chapter of IEEE Communications Society and was its Interim Chairman and then Chairman until 1998. Dr Wysocki was a Vice-Chair of the Nebraska Chapter of Communications Society, and chaired the 2nd International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems, ICSPCS,2008.
